At its formal Board meeting today, the Food Standards Agency Board discussed the FSA’s preparations for the UK’s exit from the European Union; the FSA’s programme to drive improvements in animal welfare standards in slaughterhouses in England and Wales; and the FSA’s review of food withdrawal and recall processes.

New appointments to the FSA Board

The Food Standards Agency has announced three new appointments to the FSA Board. Laura Sandys will serve as Deputy Chair, and Mary Quicke and Stuart Reid will serve as Members for three year terms ending in 2020.

Following an article in The Mirror (9 September) which suggests that some people believe that raw chicken dishes are safe to eat, we are reiterating our advice not to eat raw chicken.

Adam Halal Foods Ltd of Nechelles, Birmingham has been ordered to pay more than £68,000 after being convicted of five charges relating to failures of hygiene controls at their premises.

2016 Annual Report on UK Multi-Annual National Control Plan published

The FSA has published its annual report on progress towards implementation of the UK Multi-Annual National Control Plan (MANCP). The report, which is based on data collected for 2016, shows that overall level of compliance in all sectors in the UK was satisfactory when assessed against expectations.
