5 Star Scores on the Doors Schemes
The 5 star Scores on the Doors Scheme is run by more than 120 councils in the UK. There are plans to unify this scheme with the Food Standards Agency’s UK Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. Not all councils run this particular scheme and some run none at all. Each business is given a food safety rating between 0 and 5 stars when it is inspected by a food safety officer from the local council.
Appealing an unfair score on the door
We suggest that you ask the food safety officer what your food safety score will be before they leave the site. If you feel that you have been judged unfairly and deserve a better food safety star rating you need to act fast.
Arranging a re-scoring visit
If you feel that the food safety star rating you received was fair but you’d like a better one, you can ask your local council for a revisit. Councils can refuse this request which means that your star rating will remain unchanged until your next inspection which may be 18 months later.
We have produced a guide to Scores on the Doors and the Food Standards Agency's Food Hygiene Rating Scheme with advice on how you can obtain five stars. Please contact us for a free copy.
