Why choose our food hygiene and health and safety consultancy

About the Team

Melissa Thompson – Managing Director

Melissa has degrees in both Hospitality and in Environmental Health. She worked in hotel, pub and restaurant management before qualifying as an EHO. Later she managed a team responsible for enforcing food hygiene and health and safety in the Borough’s 1000+ food businesses.

Melissa is a Chartered EHP (Environmental Health Practitioner) and is on the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register. This means that her competence has been assessed by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and the Health and Safety Executive and that her knowledge is up-to-date.

Melissa is a mother of two teenagers and two golden retrievers and is currently  undecided which are the more troublesome.

Audrey Deane – Chief Operating Officer

Audrey has a BSc (Hons) degree in Food Science and nutrition and more than 20 years’ relevant experience.

She previously worked for two major UK retailers and has food safety auditing experience of all sizes of businesses across the globe.  Audrey also has experience of working with BRC and SALSA assurance schemes and is an experienced and engaging food safety trainer.

Audrey is a keen cook and author of cook books. Her best sellers extol the virtues of Omega 3 and of slow cookers.

Alex Hollman – Environmental Health Consultant

Alex has a BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental Health and has an extensive background working in Local Government as an Environmental Health Officer, specialising in Food and Health & Safety.

Alex also brings with her many years experience working in the catering and hospitality industry. She is a qualified Chef, and therefore well positioned to understand the challenges our clients face.

Alex is a mum of two and spends much of her time supporting her children’s interests of football and performing arts. When time permits, Alex loves nothing more than a walk in the countryside, a pub lunch, and nice glass of wine!

Lucy Fleming – Operations Director

Lucy is our Operations Director based in the Berkhamsted office. Lucy has many years’ experience working in the food industry formally having worked in Retail Operations with M&S for 17 years followed by an operational role within an independent food safety consultancy. More recently she was the Operations Director with a partner company of ours providing an online food safety solution. She brings a wealth of expertise in driving operational efficiencies and coupled with her passion for client service is a perfect fit for our business.

Lucy is a mum of 2 teenage boys and outside of work, in the spirit of ”if you can’t beat them, join them”, she organises her son’s U16 football squad. She has also recently discovered an unexpected love of skydiving (proving that you’re never too old!)

Our Team

Our team has been carefully selected on the basis of their qualifications, experience, and attitude. We understand the pressure that  companies are under now more than ever. We are committed to providing sensible advice to help you comply with the law in a way that suits your operation and style of working.

 About Our Service

Large enough to cope but small enough to care’ is a statement that best describes our company. We’re passionate about food hygiene and health and safety and want to make it as easy as possible for you to maintain high standards and comply with the law.

  • We give you peace of mind that you are legally compliant or if not, what the most practical and cost effective solutions to achieve this are.
  • We tailor our services to suit you – whether you choose to outsource all your auditing and training to us or consult us when you need a second opinion or have a specific project you wish us to carry out.
  • We are fully qualified and highly professional specialists. By working in partnership with you we can enhance your reputation with EHOs and with your customers.
  • We are friendly, reliable, confidential and quick to respond. We are happy to go the extra mile to assist and support you.
  • We listen to you carefully to make sure that we provide the assistance you need and regularly check that you are delighted with our services.
  • We have extensive enforcement experience so recognise situations when EHOs will and won’t take legal action and can liaise confidently with EHOs or challenge their decisions if required.
  • We save you money by not ‘playing it safe’ and introducing a fear of food safety hazards that aren’t serious or are unlikely to occur.
  • We keep you up-to-date with any useful and innovative food safety solutions that make their lives easier and legal compliance cheaper.
  • We make our food safety training courses fun and interesting so that trainees can relax and plan how they should change their behaviour – rather than just worrying about the test at the end of the day.
  • We tailor our training course content on the day for those with different experience, learning speeds and languages. That way the food safety messages remain relevant and trainees leave motivated to make a difference back in the workplace.
