Safer Food Scores COVID-19 Precautions

We have implemented robust COVID-19 precautions to protect our team members and recognise the importance of carrying out our work without compromising health and safety in our clients’ workplaces.

Risk assessment

A suitable and sufficient COVID-19 risk assessment has been carried out which covers our Head Office and off-site work activities.

Fitness to work reporting

All consultants are required to notify us if:

  • they develop a new continuous cough and/or a high fever and/or anosmia (loss or change of taste/smell) at home or whilst at work or have tested positive for COVID-19
  • they live with someone who has developed a new continuous cough and/or a high fever and/or anosmia (loss or change of taste/smell) or have tested positive for COVID-19
  • they (or someone they live with) are in a vulnerable group at more risk of developing severe illness from COVID-19
  • they have been contacted by the NHS Test and Trace service and asked to self-isolate
  • they have been abroad

If they meet any of the above criteria, they are not permitted to visit Head Office or any customer site before checking first with Safer Food Scores.

Personal protective equipment (PPE)

Safer Food Scores Consultants are required to maintain safe distancing by following your site rules. They have personal protective equipment which includes:

  • FFP3 Face mask
  • Plastic face shield
  • Disposable gloves
  • Hairnets
  • Clean or disposable protective clothing

Consultants also have:

  • Hand rub (BS EN 14476 or more than 70% alcohol content)
  • Hard surface alcohol wipes (BS EN 14476 or more than 70% alcohol content)
  • Tissues

Your consultant will contact you prior to their visit to discuss your COVID-19 site rules and agree with you if, and what, PPE will be required (and who will provide it) when visiting your site. If the visit is an unannounced audit, this discussion will take place at the start.

Travel to a customer site

To prevent the spread of infection whilst travelling to a customer site, consultants are instructed to:

  • wash their hands when leaving home and use hand rub before entering the site
  • walk, cycle or drive rather than take public transport if safe and possible
  • avoid sharing cars, unless with those in their own household
  • avoid peak commuting times, turn away from people and wear face coverings if they must use public transport
  • keep two metres from others when possible and never shake hands, kiss or hug others
  • use their hand rub regularly, and after coughing, sneezing, or using a tissue, and before touching their face, eyes, nose, or mouth (if it cannot be avoided)

Working at a customer site

Our consultants are trained in the field of health and safety and infection control and have good hygiene standards. They are instructed to:

  • follow any site rules or distancing rules that are communicated by the customer
  • wear any PPE deemed necessary by the consultant and the customer
  • avoid touching their eyes, nose, or mouth
  • wash hands or use hand rub regularly and after coughing, sneezing, or using a tissue and before touching the face, eyes, nose, or mouth (if it cannot be avoided)
  • contact our head office if they feel that there are insufficient COVID-19 precautions in place to protect their health on site
  • advise their host on site and our head office if they start to exhibit COVID-19 symptoms, and take advice on how to exit and travel home safely
