Safer Food Scores in the Media
In recent months, Melissa Thompson, Managing Director of Safer Food Scores, has been in demand to contribute food safety expertise to a number of professional magazines.
In August, Melissa was asked by the Institute of Hospitality to comment on the latest food poisoning outbreak statistics and the contribution the food service sector had made to them. Melissa offered advice to hotel and restaurant managers on what they should do to ensure that the food they produced was safe and in particular the latest guidance on preventing E. Coli O157.
In July, Melissa was asked by Hotel Magazine to contribute to an article entitled ‘Kitchen Nightmares’. As well as giving general advice, Melissa commented on how some companies genuinely promote a positive food safety culture whilst others assume as long as there is no outstanding EHO action the food they are producing is safe.
In June, Melissa wrote an opinion piece in Hospitality entitled ‘Display and pay’. She argued that all businesses that are in an area operating a ‘score on the door’ scheme have the right to be scored fairly and consistently. As well as explaining appeals and re-scoring procedures it gave tips on how businesses can ensure they achieve a top food hygiene rating.
